Groundbreaking and Topping Off Celebrations

The Edward M. Dowd Groundbreaking ceremony occurred on April 25, 2015. The Topping Off celebration occurred on June 9, 2015

On April 25, 2015 the SCU community gathered at the site of the new Edward M. Dowd Art and Art History Building to celebrate the Groundbreaking Ceremony. Guests included members from the Office of Development as well as those in the Office of Marketing and Communication, Department of Art and Art History Faculty and Staff, Studio Art and Art History Majors and Minors and distinguished members from the Board of Trustees. The Mayor of Santa Clara also attended and extended his gratitude for the new building construction and its valuable contribution to the Art community of the University and the Santa Clara community. Father Engh provided blessing of the grounds and former Art and Art History Department Chair, Blake de Maria, expressed the excitement of the faculty and staff who are so excited for this new building to finally bring together the Studio Art and Art History programs in one place. 

At the Topping Off celebration on June 9, 2015 members of the University community along with contributors to the building of the new Edward M. Dowd Art and Art History Building gathered to celebrate the construction of the new building. Party guests included the DevCon construction crew, Facilities staff, members of the Office of Development and the Office of Marketing and Communication, Department of Art and Art History faculty and staff along with Art and Art History majors and minors and distinguished guests. The party consisted of fun and excitement as attendees were able to sign the final support beam of the building just before they watched it raised and installed on top of the building to complete the supporting structure of the new building. The new chair of the Department of Art and Art History, Kathy Aoki, expressed the gratitude of the entire department for their new home where they will be able to encourage and strengthen passion for the arts to past and future students of the University and the Santa Clara community.
