Andrea Pappas wins 2016 Robert C. Smith Award

The Decorative Arts Society has conferred its 2016 Robert C. Smith Award on Andrea Pappas. The award recognized the best article on the subject of the decorative arts published in English in 2016. Professor Pappas won the award for her article on eighteenth-century American embroidery, "'Each Wise Nymph that Angles for a Heart': The Politics of Courtship in the Boston 'Fishing Lady' Pictures," which appeared in the Spring 2015 issue of Winterthur Portfolio: The Journal of American Material Culture. This article is related to her current book project, Embroidering the Landscape, which situates large embroidered landscapes made by colonial-era American women in the environmental history of their times.
