Pancho Jiménez Clay Mix Exhibit

This winter Clay Mix gallery is exhibiting the sculpture of Pancho Jiménez.  The work will be on display from January 5 through February 24th, 2017. This exhibition includes thirteen of Jiménez’s most recent ceramic sculptures. This is his second solo exhibit at Clay Mix.  His first was in 2009.

Jiménez is inspired by the dense carved textures of the organic and geometric designs and hieroglyphs found in ancient works of art. Utilizing contemporary imagery mined from commercial ceramic molds, used most commonly in the decorative arts, Jiménez  recontextuializes this imagery to suggest a vocabulary that is both familiar and mysterious.  Melting into one another these images suggest a dreamlike state where in images, like dreams and memories come in and out of focus.

Most recently Pancho’s work has been acquired by Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, Autry Museum of the American West in Los Angeles, and Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara.
