Student Art Club Exhibition Success

SCUSAL1

The Santa Clara University Student Art League (SCUSAL) curated the fall student art exhibition, which premiered October 11 on the first-floor hallway of the DOWD Art and Art History Building. There are over 25 pieces in the show, ranging from painting on canvas to handmade sculptures, as well as photography and ink prints. All pieces included in the show were originals created by 23 passionate young artists who are majoring in various academic disciplines at Santa Clara University. Each artwork was accompanied with labels written by Jane Ackels, Noah Sonnenburg, and Alex Montgomery who are studying art history.

SCUSAL hosted an opening attended by over 40 people, including students and faculty. Viewers voted on their favorite art work while enjoying “mocktails” by our very own Ryan Carrington. Congratulations to Isis Navarro for taking home the Viewer's Choice award for her piece, Peluca and to Maren Stratte, runner-up for Ghosting. It was a close ballot, only one vote determined the final outcome.

SCUSAL is open to any student at SCU, who studies, makes, or appreciates the visual arts. With the goal of reinvigorating a culture of the arts on campus and beyond, the organization connects students with resources, events, and opportunities. SCUSAL strives to give students the agency to interact with art, whether that be through direct involvement in the artmaking process or by critically engaging with artistic discourse.
