Bill Ahern’s basketball took off as a high school student at Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School. He was captain of his team, leading scorer, and First Team-All League of Alameda. Ahern arrived on the Mission campus to play forward for Santa Clara, and had a stellar career as a Bronco. Ahern and teammate, Holm, helped lead their 1945-46 team to 3-0 league start. After graduating from Santa Clara University he obtained a law degree from the University of San Francisco before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Bill Ahern reached the rank of Lieutenant before leaving the U.S. Navy.
