Marty Passaglia graduated from the University of Santa Clara in 1941. Passaglia’s career is highlighted by two trips to Madison Square Garden (1940 and 1941) that gained national attention as the Broncos defeated City College of New York both times. He was one of the Broncos' famed "Magicians of the Maplewood" along with teammates Bruce Hale, Toddy Giannini, Bob Feerick, and Jim Rickert. His senior year he received All-American Recognition. After graduation, Passaglia served his country as a Captain in the Army and enjoyed playing basketball for the Army team. The Passaglia Rule was named after Marty. The rule stated that if a player entered the military as an amateur, they left the military with their amateur status intact. After World War II, Passaglia joined the Basketball Association of America, the precursor to the NBA, with the Washington Capitals for the 1946-47 season. He then played a season with the St. Paul Saints of the Basketball League of America, and eventually returned to the BAA to play for the Indianapolis Jets in 1948-149. After retirement Pasagelia was inducted into his alma mater, Galileo High School’s, Hall of Fame.
