A Message from the Chair

Students of the SCU accounting department continue to enjoy huge success in the job market. In 2016, 94% (92% of accounting majors and 100% of A&IS majors) indicated that they had accepted a position by spring quarter of their senior year. US News and World Report ranked our undergraduate accounting program 23rd in the nation. I would like to thank all of you who have contributed time and financial support to our program. It is my pleasure to share this year’s newsletter with you.

Department News

In April 2016, The Association to Advanced Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) re-accredited our Accounting Program as one of only five accounting programs in California that meet the stringent standards required for AACSB accreditation. Professor Yongtae Kim was awarded the Robert and Barbara McCullough Family Chair by the University.

Faculty Spotlight: Michael "Lucky" Eames

Lucky joined our department in 1996 through a circuitous route. He obtained an undergraduate degree in business from Berkeley and then a Masters in Wildlife and Fisheries, again from Berkeley. From there he earned an MBA in finance from the University of Washington and obtained his CPA, eventually earning a Ph.D. in accounting.

Siqi Li Receives Achievement in Scholarship

Each year, the University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship recognizes scholarly or creative work over the previous five years that represents a major contribution to a field of knowledge or to the arts. In September 2016, Dr Siqi Li, Associate Professor of Accounting, became the third business school professor to receive this prestigious award.

This past May, three graduating Seniors were recognized for their outstanding performance while at Santa Clara. Nick Casaccia and Tiffany Iskandar were co-recipients of the O.
