Jason Matthews is the director of undergraduate programs, senior lecturer, and Dixon Hughes Goodman (DHG) Faculty Fellow in the J. M. Tull School of Accounting at the University of Georgia. He received a B.S. degree in finance at Missouri State University, a MAcc. degree at North Carolina State University, and a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Georgia. Prior to returning to academia Professor Matthews worked for approximately thirteen years in various finance and accounting roles, most recently as chief financial officer at Roark Capital Group. Prior to Roark, he was vice president and chief financial officer of United Coal Company and chief financial officer at Oculan. He co-authors a managerial accounting textbook. Professor Matthews has taught financial accounting at the MBA level, advanced accounting and accounting information systems at the graduate level, and auditing, cost accounting, AIS, and introductory financial and managerial accounting at the undergraduate level. He is the recipient of numerous awards for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level, is actively serving on committees of the American Accounting Association and is a CMA.
Dr. Matthews and his wife, Pam, have one daughter and three sons and live in Watkinsville, GA. His outside interests include competing in Ironman triathlons, snow skiing, backpacking, and yard work.
