Summer 2023 - IDIS 3695

Global Business Perspectives: Consulting Project in London

Saturday, September 2 - Saturday, September 9, 2023
4 Units

Program Fee: $3,490 (in addition to per unit tuition costs)

London is a great world city and much more than just the capital of the United Kingdom. This bustling, vibrant, multicultural, and cosmopolitan metro area has something for everyone. There is both old and new, where traditional pubs stand side-by-side the newest cocktail bars. Its most ancient castle is right next door to its newest skyscrapers. London's energy, with 8.7 million people, is palpable in every trip on the Underground and every stroll along the Thames. London's diverse cultures include over 300 languages and the city houses the world’s largest concentration of institutions of higher learning. From the arts, entertainment, fashion, education, health care, media, science and technology, London really does have it all.

For centuries, London has influenced global commerce and finance. Its GDP (€801.66 billion in 2017) makes it the largest urban economy in Europe, and it is one of the major financial centers in the world.  Situated in this dynamic environment, this intensive one-week immersion program offers students the unique opportunity to engage with a client on a consulting project while examining the complexities of operating a global business. Students will examine cultural and sociopolitical trends and analyze the management, and corporate challenges of operating a business in London and the UK.  A highlight will be the rich interaction with our client in London, both before and during our travel. Site visits to other London firms will also offer additional access to professionals and experts across multiple industries to more fully gain insights into the challenging and ever-changing aspects of the business world in London.

During their career, most students will confront the opportunity to access global markets, to define international partnerships, and/or evaluate global competition.  An appreciation for and readiness to managing business in the global context enables students to take advantage of high reward opportunities. The combination of course work, completion of the consulting project, and shared interactions with the client firm and other experts on the ground reward students with rich one-of-a-kind experiences and learning.

The course fee includes in-country double-occupancy hotel accommodations, a private bus and English-speaking guide, sightseeing opportunities, and meals & drinks as listed in your itinerary. This fee is in addition to the 4 units of tuition.

This program is open to both evening MBA and online MBA program students. The required pre-travel course content will be mostly online asynchronous. There will be three required synchronous (Zoom) sessions with the client prior to travel:

  1. Project kick-off
  2. Q&A and milestone review
  3. Pitch of preliminary solutions

We will meet the client in person to get to know them better and for final presentations in London.
