The department’s majors and minors may pursue a variety of careers after graduation.

Such possibilities include management consulting, systems administration, technical sales and marketing, operations management, and roles as business analysts in public, private, service and nonprofit sectors.

Past graduates have also gone on to various master’s degree or doctoral programs, as well as law school.

Potential Management Information Systems Careers

Below are some popular career choices for management information systems or accounting and information systems majors.

As a business analyst you will help to manage, change and plan for the future of an organization with their goals. You will need to understand the current organizational situation, identify future needs, create solutions to meet those needs usually in relation to information and software systems. You will also play a key role in communicating between internal departments and external parties, conveying where necessary how information technology can support the organization’s needs. In short, if you enjoy analysing data, creating solutions, working with people, have a good grasp of information technology, a career as a business analyst could be for you.

As a systems analyst you will use computers and related systems to design new Information Technology solutions, modify, enhance, adapt existing systems, integrate new features or improvements, with the ultimate goal of improving business efficiency and productivity. You will be the liaison between internal and external clients, including colleagues and developers, throughout the development process. You will work closely with managers and software developers, during both the report and implementation phase.

As an Information Systems Manager you will be responsible for the computer systems within a company. For being a manager you will need experience in the technical support or operations sector. You will be managing a staff of technicians, programmers and database administrators. You will be responsible for researching and installing new systems, evaluating user needs and system functionality, implementing new technology, ensuring smooth functioning of the Information Technology systems, and contributing to policies for strategic planning in the organization.
