 SCU Microfinance 2017

As the faculty advisor for the SCU Student Microfinance Organization, Long Le has been working with students to raise awareness of Microfinance and to empower people to fight against global poverty.  The student organization has provided zero-interest loans to young women entrepreneurs in The Gambia. Mariama Darboe, an 18-year-old former Starfish student and current Starfish mentor in training, received the load and started Jula’s Fabric Enterprise; the start-up sells African fabric for women who make their own dresses for feasts in The Gambia. Awa Ceesay, an 18-year-old former Starfish student and current Starfish mentor in training, used to loan to start “Nyodema Cosmetics” that sells men and women’s cosmetic items.
