Areas of Interest at SCU and LSB:
During my time at SCU, I’ve developed interests in both international business and coding, which has led me to declare them as my major and minor. SCU has opened me up to the possibilities of working abroad, and so I hope to combine that with working in the tech industry post graduation.
What are your SCU and LSB activities/general hobbies:
Along with being a Leavey Ambassador, I’m currently on the executive board of SCU’s professional service fraternity called Alpha Phi Omega, serving as the VP of Service. I’m also involved in the school’s Korean Student Association as their Public Relations Officer. I also enjoy dancing, and so I’m currently a team member of SCU’s competitive hip hop dance team, Hipnotik, as the Bonding Chair. In my free time, I enjoy visiting cute cafés with my friends as well as listening to music.
What global experiences have you had in college?
While I haven’t been able to study abroad during my time at SCU, I’m currently taking classes back in Taiwan due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Balancing my workload with the timezone difference has surely been a challenge, but I’ve definitely been grateful to be back home. I’m also planning on interning here as well over the Summer of 2021.
Favorite LSB Class and Why?
My favorite class so far has to be my OMIS 107: Systems Programming class with Professor Samorani. While the material is quite challenging since I’ve had limited experience with coding, Professor Samorani is very thorough with his teaching and is very open for questions during class. I’m certain the skills that I’m currently learning in this class will be highly beneficial for not only my future courses, but for the field of work I want to pursue as well.
What made you choose to attend LSB?
One of the biggest factors in my decision to attend LSB was the smaller class sizes. Having family nearby was also a plus, but I wanted to be in smaller classes so that I could create bonds with my fellow classmates and professors. Since coming to SCU, I’ve been able to get close with my classmates to form study groups and also to reach out to my professors during office hours or to even just get to know them. Also, since SCU is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, I wanted to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities the school has to offer and to enhance my networking skills as well.
What advice you wish you had while applying to college?
One piece of advice I would give to those applying to college is that it’s perfectly fine to not know what exactly you want to study in college. Since your first year of college is primarily introductory courses, you’ll be able to dabble in a range of subjects which will help you determine your interests and potential fields of study. There’s no need to rush into something you’re still unsure about and feel stuck with it. I suggest leaving your options open, since you never know if a certain class suddenly makes you decide to pursue that field of study as your major.
