In March, the ACE seniors honored four of their favorite professors with the ACE Outstanding Faculty Awards at the Senior Dinner. Among these four winners was Kumar Sarangee, Associate Professor of Marketing. Professor Sarangee began his career as a Bachelor’s and MBA student in his home country of India. He also worked in product management and marketing before coming to the United States to work as a consultant for several companies. After completing a second MBA at Case Western Reserve University and a PhD in Marketing from the University of Illinois, he decided to focus on a teaching career. Due to his interest in product innovation and the Silicon Valley’s reputation for entrepreneurship, Professor Sarangee decided to accept an offer from SCU and move to sunny California.

Currently, Professor Sarangee teaches Principles of Marketing and Innovation & New Product Marketing at the undergraduate level, while also offering a combination of marketing and management at the graduate level. His research areas similarly center around new product development, technology management, and the use of social media.

When asked to provide advice to ACE students, Professor Sarangee’s answer was, “Fear no one.” He recalls learning this lesson while at CWRU, where he had to compete for opportunities against students from other reputable schools in the Midwest. Professor Sarangee maintains that the way to succeed in these situations is to conquer fear and consequently work so hard and wisely that other people respect you. Professor Sarangee would like to see this same mentality from ACE students, especially with their immense potential, so that they can excel in the competitive climate of Silicon Valley. Furthermore, he wants students to remember to enjoy their time here and to always help other individuals.

Congratulations to Professor Sarangee for winning the ACE Outstanding Faculty Award, and we thank him for his contributions to the ACE Program.
