Jackson Tuton: Impacting the Community

Jackson reflects on his internship at the Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits.

Over the past eight months, I have had the opportunity to engage in a great deal of SVCN’s powerful community initiatives. We have organized large events with hundreds of attendees and a variety of influential guest speakers, all while providing valuable policy, advocacy, and training services to hundreds of nonprofit organizations in the community. Since my last update, we hosted two major events. The first event was the Health and Housing Summit which brought leaders together to discuss important topics within healthcare and housing at the federal, state, and local levels. Last week, we hosted our Funding Your Impact Summit. This annual summit offers nonprofit organizations valuable insight into fundraising and donor engagement practices. Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive- SVCN looks forward to hosting this highly successful event again in 2019!

As I approach the end of my fellowship between the Leavey School of Business and SVCN, I am focused on continuing to provide the organization valuable work and actionable items for SVCN’s future growth. After a few months of deep investigation and analysis into the Santa Clara County nonprofit sector, we are in the final stages of developing a report that summarizes our findings. The most recent analysis of the county’s nonprofit sector was done in 2010, so we are very excited to be able to present an updated report in the coming weeks. This analysis will also provide valuable insight into SVCN’s current operations and potential opportunities for future growth, which is what I am now focusing on through the end of my fellowship. I have had an incredible time working with SVCN thus far, and I look forward to the month that lies ahead!
