Fr. Robert J. McCann, JCL, has been a priest of the Diocese of Oakland for thirty-four years. He was born and raised in New York and began studies for the priesthood at an early age. He attended The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. where he was a Basselin Scholar and finished his theology studies at St. Patrick’s Seminary, Menlo Park in 1981. Always wanting to be a parish priest, he has served the parishes of All Saints in Hayward, St. Cyril Parish in Oakland, St. Raymond Parish in Dublin and is currently the pastor of St. Theresa Parish in Oakland.
In addition to his parish duties, Fr. Bob was appointed to the Diocesan Tribunal in 1983 and has served as a judge, defender, prosecutor and advocate to the present time. He completed his canonical studies at The Catholic University in 1990. In 2005 he was asked to teach canon law to the permanent deacon class for the San Jose diocese. The following year he began teaching at St. Patrick’s Seminary where he still teaches and is the Pastoral Studies Department Chair. In 2009 he began teaching canon law at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University in Berkeley.
