Stephen Lee's current research examines the production and dissemination of popular music, the film industry and the changing nature of television production. His work has been published in journals such as Popular Music and the Journal of Media Economics. Lee also is a professional filmmaker. He produced a film for the Santa Clara sesquicentennial. In 2001, Lee produced a 30-minute documentary in association with the Noyce Foundation on an innovative elementary school writing literacy program. In 2002, he expanded the documentary to a comprehensive, three-hour version that California school districts involved in the program used for teacher training. Currently, Lee has secured funding for a new documentary about several families who share the same anonymous sperm donor.
