Real Lives and Educational Equity
Christine Bachen , Pedro Hernández-Ramos (Education), Chad Raphael , and Amanda Waldron (Political Science alumnae) published an article, "Civic Play and Civic Gaps: Can Life Simulation Games Advance Educational Equity?" in the Journal of Information Technology & Politics. The study found that the game "Real Lives" especially stimulated civic learning for lower-performing high school students, and engaged both males and females. The authors draw conclusions about how game-based learning could help close the achievement gap in civic education.
