The Intersection of India and America

Rohit Chopra recently published a series of articles and interviews focused on political and cultural trends in India and how they intersect with life in the United States.

He examined the popularity of Donald Trump and the rise of populist democracy in a January issue of Economic & Political Weekly. In Quartz, he explored efforts by Hindu nationalists to quietly fund — and lobby — American universities. He discussed the issue further in an interview with P Rajendran in India Abroad. And in a wide-ranging interview with India Parent Magazine, he reflected on privacy issues, political trends, and the future of Indian democracy.

He incorporates this global perspective into his work with SCU students. “I try not to distinguish between events happening in the U.S. versus events happening ‘out there,’” Chopra said. “A political event in the U.S. is a global event.”
