Training Officer and Assistant Professor of Military Science
Colin Stark is a native of Indiana and enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard in February of 2000 as an Intelligence Analyst. He attended Basic Training in Ft. Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training in Ft. Huachuca, AZ. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree at Indiana University, CPT Stark commissioned as in Infantry Officer through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 2005 and attended the Infantry Officer Basic Course in Ft. Benning, GA.
In 2006 CPT Stark deployed to Ramadi, Iraq for 16 months as an Infantry Platoon Leader and was in charge of two Iraqi Police stations in Ramadi and Fallujah which turned into four by the end of the deployment. Responsibilities primarily consisted of working with and mentoring Iraqi Colonels who were in charge of the various police stations in extremely austere environments. Colin reported directly to the Deputy Commanding Officer (DCO) of 1 st Armored Division (1AD) in Ramadi and earned a Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantry Badge for his services.
After Iraq CPT Stark volunteered for an additional year of Active Duty with the First Army, 1- 335 IN REGT out of Camp Atterbury, IN as an Observer Controller Trainer (OC/T) to train and mentor Soldiers deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo. After completing that year Colin moved to Los Gatos, CA to volunteer in a yearlong church program and study for the GMAT with the goal of attending Santa Clara University’s (SCU) MBA program.
In 2010 CPT Stark served as BN S-4 for the 1-184 IN BN in the California Army National Guard, worked full time for SCU ROTC as the Recruiting Operations Officer along with teaching the MS1’s and attended evening grad school at SCU. He completed Maneuver Captain’s Career Course at Ft. Benning, GA in 2012 and served as an Infantry Line Company Commander for Bravo CO/1-184 IN BN. He also completed his MBA at SCU in 2014. After completing Company Command he was assigned as Brigade Operations Officer (S3) for the 223 rd Regional Training Institute (RTI) in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Colin is an Army Reserves Captain serving as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at SCU. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Agile Certified Professional (ACP) who works as a Sr. IT Program Manager for Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HPE). His responsibilities at HPE consist of Business Operations, Compliance and Vendor Management. He ensures core infrastructure and applications representing over $1M annual spend continue to operate without issue.
CPT Stark lives in San Jose, CA and is married to the former Farida Sultany and together they have a 16 month old son named Alexander. In his spare time Colin enjoys attending his local church and has travelled to 23 countries.
