Ariel Schindewolf
Ariel Schindewolf has a Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics with an emphasis in Applied Linguistics from the University of California Santa Barbara. Her dissertation examined how creative dramatic activities shape students’ anxiety and confidence (affect) when speaking. She has a BA in Romance Languages from Colorado College that took her to Italy, Mexico and France. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, where she learned and spoke Guaraní as a Rural Health Extentionist. After which she returned to her hometown where she became a high school Spanish teacher in the Bay Area and spent three summers getting an MA from Sacramento State University in Spain, Costa Rica and Peru. She is passionate about teaching Spanish, Linguistics and Translation. Since arriving at SCU in 2014 she has also particularly enjoyed supervising students' summer translation internships for the My Own Business Institute (MOBI), collaborating with students and Dr. Francisco Jiménez on the translation of "Taking Hold", and serving as a mentor for students working abroad in Spanish-speaking countries with social enterprises through the Miller Center Global Social Benefits Fellowship program.
