The College of Arts and Sciences announces a 5 year, $1 million partnership with BioSpyder Technologies

The College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce a 5 year, $1,000,080 partnership with BioSpyder Technologies, a leading innovator of molecular profiling applications involving DNA, RNA and proteins. The collaboration will be part of the College of Arts and Science’s new Corporate Partners Program.

As a leader in gene expression profiling, BioSpyder will provide TempO-Seq, a novel assay platform, for use in several key research projects at Santa Clara, spanning multiple disciplines including Public Health, Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience, and Biochemistry. Thanks to high target content, high sample throughput, and simple data analysis, TempO-Seq opens new worlds of scientific discovery to the College of Arts and Sciences, making large scale studies now both affordable and practical.

The projects supported by BioSpyder’s funding will create opportunities for undergraduate students to work alongside faculty in their research efforts and be listed as co-authors on papers detailing the outcomes of the research. Undergraduate students will not only improve their knowledge and understanding of basic research methods, but also develop into skilled users of BioSpyder’s tools and technologies. In turn, BioSpyder will develop a pathway for Santa Clara students for internships and full-time jobs post-graduation.

“This partnership is an excellent example of how companies and undergraduate universities should interact and leverage each other’s strengths. From groundbreaking research to employment opportunities for students, we envision a comprehensive and limitless relationship with the College of Arts and Sciences,” said Joel McComb, co-founder and CEO of BioSpyder Technologies.

“I am excited about the possibilities,” said Debbie Tahmassebi, Dean of the College of Arts and Science. “Because of BioSpyder’s incredibly generous gift, expertise and innovative technologies, our faculty and students are now able to do research they would not have been able to do before. I’m confident this is just the beginning of what will be a fruitful relationship for years to come and a great model for future partnerships.”

About BioSpyder Technologies
BioSpyder Technologies has developed a novel product for targeted sequencing called TempO-Seq, a gene expression profiling tool designed to monitor hundreds to thousands of genes at once in high throughput. TempO-Seq can analyze expression in samples with thousands of cells or from single cells without pre-amplification, maximizing utilization of precious or limited samples. Sample barcoding, together with sequencing short fragments of each gene, enables pooling up to 6,144 samples in one singular sequencing run.

About the College of Arts and Sciences at Santa Clara University
The College of Arts and Sciences is the heart of Santa Clara University.
