Faculty Update: Frederick J. Parrella
Religious Studies, presented two papers at international meetings. The first paper was presented to the APTEF, Association Paul Tillich d’Expression française, Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada, at their biannual meeting, 10–13 August, 2015. The theme of the conference was “Ambiguities in the Life of Paul Tillich.” His paper was titled “Does Life Imitate Art or Art Life?: The Ambiguities in Paul Tillich’s Theology and in His Personal Life,” and it was presented on August 10, 2015. He was also invited to present a paper to the Internationaler Kongress, “‘To be on your own’—Paul Tillich in Exile,” sponsored by the Deutsche-Paul-Tillich-Gesellschaft. The Kongress was held at the Theologische Fakultät der Humboldt-Universität, Berlin, 22–25 October, in order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Paul Tillich, the German philosopher–theologian and émigré, who died 22 October 1965. The title of the paper was “Paul Tillich and American Theology,” presented on 24 October 2015.
