National Catholic Sisters Week occurs every year from March 8 - March 14 as part of Women’s History Month. This week highlights the history of Catholic women religious and allows us to celebrate the work sisters do in standing with the poor and immigrants, teaching students at every educational level, advocating for justice in our political and social spheres, healing the sick, sharing spirituality, empowering people, defending the planet, promoting peace, creating community, and offering hope.
At Santa Clara University, we work alongside many dedicated sisters who bring unique perspectives and expertise to our community. We have a long history of collaborating with women’s communities, whether they teach here, study here, or worship with us. We are thankful for their witness. We are so proud of our sister alumnae working in communities worldwide to accompany, serve, and support others. The sisters’ contributions and impact to ‘build a more humane, just, and sustainable world’ are unparalleled.
As we celebrate National Catholic Sisters Week, we are profoundly grateful for the work of Catholic sisters and their impact on the world. We invite the community and the sisters who work, study, and worship with the Santa Clara community or in our communities nearby to celebrate their legacy of service and justice.
