Spring Quarter - Week 4

A message from Victor Lemus

Dear Santa Clara Community,

As we enter into the fourth week of this most unusual quarter, we in Campus Ministry wish to remind you of our togetherness in this.

Now is certainly a time to connect, to encourage, to inspire and support. But now is also the time to allow for our hearts to lean into each other, and perhaps, to break, together. In the Christian tradition, we have just celebrated Easter, and the new life that we are invited into. This new life, however, is not reserved for once a year, but is offered to us only all the time. And so, may we have the courage to feel the loss and sadness we carry during this time, but may we do so anchored in the togetherness of our shared humanity.

Many during this time, certainly within our SCU community, are attempting to discern ways of outreach and support. We encourage you to name what you need, to allow yourself the authority to receive, and to do so, together.

May peace be with us on this day,

Victor Lemus

We want to hear from you! Please give us feedback -- what has supported you recently, and what would be most helpful for you for the rest of the quarter!

Celebrating Earth Day and the tUrn project

pope quote

Please check out the many offerings from the tUrn project as we celebrate the historic 50th Birthday of Earth Day! May each of us enter into more intentional care for all of creation, from creature to community to climate. May we reawaken wonder and delight as the natural world around us is bursting forth with life, and may we ensure that the most vulnerable among us is safe from harm.

A Prayer for Our Earth, Laudato Si’

“On Care for our Common Home”

All-powerful God,

you are present in the whole universe

and in the smallest of your creatures.

You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love,

that we may protect life and beauty.

Fill us with peace, that we may live

as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor,

help us to rescue the abandoned

and forgotten of this earth,

so precious in your eyes.

Bring healing to our lives,

that we may protect the world and not prey on it,

that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.

Touch the hearts

of those who look only for gain

at the expense of the poor and the earth.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,

to be filled with awe and contemplation,

to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature

as we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day.

Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle

for justice, love and peace.

Follow our social channels and share your stories of hope!
