Sacramental Formation

In support of the development of the whole person, Campus Ministry encourages students to learn, reflect and grow in faith through a variety of programs.
  • iconRite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)

The RCIA process is for current SCU students who wish to explore questions of faith and potential initiation in the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and/or 1st Eucharist (communion). Since the process varies according to background, the first step for inquirers to submit an online form and meet with Lulu Santana, the Campus Minister who oversees the process. Students may begin the process at any point in the year.

  • iconConfirmation

The Confirmation program at Santa Clara University is available every other year for current SCU Catholic students (undergraduate and graduate). Alumni and community members may check their local parish for an Adult Confirmation program.

Preparation for Confirmation includes 7 small group sessions that will begin the week of April 7: six before and one after the Confirmation. The scheduling of these sessions will happen in the latter end of the winter quarter and will likely include 2-3 options in order to accommodate different schedules. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at the 6:00 p.m. mass on Sunday, May 18, 2014 in the Mission Church. There is no fee associated with the Confirmation program.

Registration for the 2014 Confirmation program is now open and will continue through the winter quarter 2014. Interested students are asked to complete the online Sacrament of Confirmation 2014 Registration form. Lulu Santana, the Campus Minister who oversees Confirmation, will then contact registered students to schedule an individual meeting with her either in the fall or winter quarter.

All Confirmation Candidates will need to submit a scanned copy of their baptism certificate and the name and contact information of their Sponsor (Madrina/Padrino) by the beginning of March 2014. Further details about these two items will be discussed during the meeting with Lulu.
