Rev. Laura Brekke
Director of Religious Diversity
I am the Director of Religious Diversity, and the Protestant Campus Minister. It is a joy to be a part of this wonderful ministry team!
I am originally from Atlanta, GA – a good Southern belle – and am enjoying being a West Coast transplant. I am an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and a graduate of a Methodist Seminary in Atlanta (Candler School of Theology). In the past, I have served as a solo supply pastor at a small church in rural Alabama. I’ve been lucky enough to live and study in different parts of the world, including in England, Northern Ireland, Cambodia and Guatemala. I love international travel!
Interfaith Engagement is the heart of my ministry. I aim to create safe space to explore the richness of our diversity, to ask tough questions, and to affirm the beauty and value of our individual journeys with God. I believe in questions! Every other Thursday we have Interfaith Dinner Discussions (on the odd weeks of the quarter). Come, visit, eat, and wrestle with life’s big (and not so big) questions. I lead an ecumenical Bible Study every Tuesday night, which is an opportunity for Christian students to join together across denominations to study Scripture and grow together.
I am an avid reader (dftba!), aspiring writer, out-of-practice hiker, and lover of folk and bluegrass music. My one year old nephew is the love of my life, and exploring California provides endless opportunities for adventure!
