Director of Campus Ministry

Schedule a conversation with Fr. Dennis

Although I am a native of Illinois, I grew up in Santa Monica, California and arrived at Santa Clara University in 1965 as a first-year student, majoring in mathematics. For four years I lived in SCU residence halls and participated in the faith-life of the SCU community.

After graduating in 1969, I entered the Jesuits. I studied Latin, Greek and Philosophy at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, then Philosophy at St. Louis University, and then received a Master's in mathematics at UC Santa Barbara. After teaching at Santa Clara during the 1975-76 academic year, I studied theology at Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley (now part of SCU) and was ordained a priest in 1979. I completed my graduate studies in computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and returned to Santa Clara in 1982 as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

I served as a Resident Minister/Jesuit-in-Residence in Dunne Hall for 7 years and in Walsh Hall for 3 years and, over the years, have assisted in various retreats and liturgical services coordinated by Campus Ministry since returning to SCU.

Besides teaching a range of mathematics and computer science courses, I have had a long-standing interest in worship and liturgy and am the author of various books and articles on liturgy.

I consider it to be a privilege to have been associated with SCU for over 50 years and now to be able to serve the University as the Director of Campus Ministry.
