What is the Commencement format?

Graduates and their four (4) guests will process through Santa Clara University’s campus as they participate in Commencement on Saturday, June 11. During this festive celebration, Class of 2022 graduates, in academic attire, will have their name read aloud, receive their diploma cover, and have their photo taken by a professional photographer as they cross the stage in front of the historic Mission Church. The Commencement stage crossing will be livestreamed for all to view and the link will be posted on the Commencement website.
Undergraduates will choose from three Commencement procession time slots (9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m.). Undergraduates will process with their friends/classmates and will not be processing with their college/school.
Graduate Students will process with their college/school at the following times:
4:30 p.m. Education and Counseling Psychology & Pastoral Ministries
6:00 p.m. Graduate School of Engineering
7:30 p.m. Graduate School of Leavey School of Business 

How long is the Commencement procession route?

The 2022 Commencement route is a continually moving .75-mile walking procession through Santa Clara University’s campus starting in front of the Dowd Art and Art History Building. Please plan accordingly by wearing comfortable walking shoes.

How do graduates get their Commencement GradPass and Guest Ticket(s)?

In April, eligible graduates received an email from detailing how to obtain their GradPass and Guest Ticket(s) via MarchingOrder. Also through MarchingOrder, graduates can register up to four (4) guests to accompany them for Commencement. Graduates will be required to provide their guests’ name and email address. Guests will be able to access their tickets via email and will be required to have a screenshot or printed copy of their ticket to be admitted to the celebration.

Children under the age of 2 do not need a ticket to attend Commencement.

Can graduates request additional Guest Tickets?

The Commencement Office is offering four (4) guest tickets per graduate. As Commencement approaches, and if you are still in need of additional tickets, we recommend checking with other graduates to see if they have any tickets that have not been allocated to their family/friends.

Will graduates need academic attire to participate in the Commencement?

Academic attire is recommended to be worn at Commencement.

I am graduating with honors, where do I pick up my honor cord?

University honor cords are provided for undergraduate students who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.500 or higher by the end of Winter Quarter. Undergraduates who have met these requirements were notified by email on April 20. To pick up their honor cord, honors students will need to visit the SCU Campus Bookstore during regular business hourss: M-F, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. and show their SCU Access Card to verify their name and honors achievement.

Will graduates be professionally photographed?

Graduates will have their photo taken by a professional photographer as they cross the stage in front of the historic Mission Church. These digital proofs will be emailed to graduates after Commencement with the opportunity to purchase photos.

Is the procession ADA accessible?

The 0.75-mile procession is ADA compliant/accessible. Should you need to rent a wheelchair, you may contact Brannon's Medical at (408) 448-3000 or Bischoff's Medical & Mobility at (408) 286-6651.

Can I bring water on the procession route?

You are encouraged to bring a clear water bottle for the procession as June 11 will be a warm day. 

What kind of bag can I bring with me to Commencement?

No large purses, backpacks, or bags will be allowed at Commencement. All bags will be subject to search, and the University will be adhering to the Event Bag Policy. The policy states that each guest can bring one large clear bag or a small clutch. The clear bag must be a standard 12" by 6" by 12."

Can I bring my pet to Commencement?

Only service animals are permitted to attend these events.

Where should I park?

On campus parking information will be updated as we get closer to the event. We are expecting large crowds at Commencement and strongly recommend using Rideshare.

Will there be a Campus Liturgy before Commencement?

Graduates and their families are invited to participate in a student-planned Liturgy on Friday, June 10 at 5:00 p.m. in the Mission Gardens. If you plan on attending the Liturgy, please register here.

What if I have questions about the Undergraduate Grad Bash?

The Alumni Association will host an Undergraduate celebration at Bellomy Field on Friday, June 10 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., immediately following the Campus Liturgy. The event will include food, beverages, music, lawn games, and photo ops. Each undergraduate will be given a complimentary ticket to attend and the option to purchase up to six (6) guest tickets at $50 each. The Alumni Association looks forward to showing graduates what it means to be a Bronco for life! #SCUAlumni Registration for this event will open on Wednesday, April 13 at noon and additional information can be found here.

Do guests need to take a COVID-19 test to attend Commencement related events?

We encourage all attendees to take a rapid antigen test the day of the event and only attend if the result is negative.  Masks are also encouraged.
