2/7: Coronavirus Update: No New Confirmed Cases in Santa Clara County

The following message was emailed to the campus community on February 7, 2020.

Dear Santa Clara University community,

We are writing with an update on developments regarding the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak. As of Feb. 7, no new confirmed cases were reported in Santa Clara County. Currently all classes, campus events, and activities are proceeding without interruption.

Santa Clara University continues to coordinate with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department (SCCPHD) to closely monitor new local developments as well as follow the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Federal and local health agencies have expanded precautionary measures for travelers to reduce the risk of transmission. Accordingly, we have outlined guidance on the Cowell Center website for any SCU community members returning from affected areas. We stand ready to assist anyone affected by these restrictions.

We would like to remind everyone to take precautions to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases, including common illnesses like colds and flu. It is not too late to get a flu shot, available at Cowell Health Center for students. We highly encourage faculty and staff to see their primary care doctor or their local pharmacy for the flu vaccine.

The health and safety of our community is very important and we are committed to sharing key information as it becomes available.

We ask that in these times of stress and uncertainty we support those affected by this situation, those who may be far from home, and those in need of support. Please continue to treat each other with kindness, respect, and compassion.
