FAQ’s Regarding the Second Bexsero Vaccine
When does the second dose need to be administered?
It is recommended that the second dose of Bexsero® be administered no sooner than one month after the first dose. Therefore, the second dose may be administered at any time after at least one month has passed. The vaccine clinics we are offering have all been timed to occur after the minimum recommended period has elapsed.
When will the 2nd dose of the Bexsero® vaccine be available to students?
The University will offer four on-campus vaccination clinics to administer the second dose of the Bexsero® meningococcal vaccine beginning in mid- March. Vaccines will be available between 9:00 am - 6:00 pm on March 18, April 6, 7 and 8.
What is the cost of receiving the second dose of the Bexsero® meningococcal vaccine on campus?
There is no cost to receive the second dose of the Bexsero® meningococcal vaccine at the on-campus vaccination clinics. The vaccine for both the first and second Bexsero® vaccine clinics has been provided by the Santa Clara County Public Health Department and the California Department of Public Health.
What if I want to receive the second dose before the SCU-sponsored clinics?
Should you wish to receive the second dose before the scheduled clinics, you should consult with your individual health insurance provider regarding immunization coverage and then obtain the vaccine from a local physician office or pharmacy. We do advise calling these locations first to be sure they stock the Bexsero® vaccine.
If a student goes to their primary care physician for the second dose of the Bexsero® meningococcal vaccine, what documentation should the student provide to Santa Clara University?
