Michelle U. Nguyen Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Michelle U. Nguyen Endowed Scholarship will help enhance the social, economic, and cultural diversity of the student body by supporting underrepresented Counseling Psychology graduate students of color with financial need and those whose interests are in serving the mental health needs of the Vietnamese community. Preference will be given to a student of Vietnamese heritage or someone of Asian heritage more broadly.

The Michelle U. Nguyen Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2021 as part of the initiative to increase diversity among the student body as recommended by the Presidential Blue Ribbon Commission on Diversity and Inclusion. Michelle's desire is to enhance the social, economic, and cultural diversity of the student body by supporting underrepresented Counseling Psychology graduate students of color with financial need and those whose interests are in serving the mental health needs of the Vietnamese community. Preference will be given to a student of Vietnamese heritage or someone of Asian heritage more broadly. 

 

Learn a little more about Michelle Nguyen

Michelle is an alumna and current member of the advisory board in the School of Education and Counseling Pscyhology. She is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist and NBC-HW Coach in private practice. In her therapy work, she specializes in relationship issues, depression, anxiety, stress management, health and wellness coaching. In the past, Michelle has provided court-ordered therapy and taught court-ordered classes for clients involved in domestic violence and child abuse cases, in English and Vietnamese. These included Certified 52-week Batterers’ Intervention and Certified 52-week Parenting Without Violence programs. Michelle also serves on the SCU Board of Regents and has previously served on the Board of Trustees of the O’Connor Hospital Foundation. She has also spent many years working in the area of supplemental education for students with her late husband, who was a pioneer in interactive computer-assisted learning.
