Brandi Chastain is a renowned soccer player for the U.S. National Team and Santa Clara University. Her achievements include being a two-time World Cup champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist (1996, 2004) and a silver medalist (2000). She is best known for her game-winning penalty shootout kick against China in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup final and her passionate celebration in the moments following. Her success earned her a spot as one of People Magazine's 25 Most Intriguing People that year, while the photo of her celebration was named one of the 100 greatest sports photos of all-time by Sports Illustrated.
More recently, Chastain co-founded the Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative in 2005 with a mission to create programs and partnerships through which women athletes bring health, hope, and wholeness to the community. Chastain is also a popular TV personality, having made appearance in Food Network's Chopped Celebrity Tourney, ABC's Splash, ABC's The Superstars, and having been a lead soccer analyst for ESPN and NBC. Chastain was also the commencement speaker at SCU for the Class of 2014, during which she received an honorary doctorate of public service.
Chastain is a graduate of the Santa Clara University where she received a bachelor's degree in communication.
