Diocesan, university partnerships continue in theology, education

The Diocese of San Jose and Santa Clara University have links which include the SCU Religious Studies Department and the Jesuit School of Theology, especially with the School of Education and Counseling Psychology.
The School of Education offers two credential programs specifically for Catholic School teachers. The Abbreviated Preliminary Teaching Program for Catholic School Teachers offers a route for veteran Catholic schoolteachers to obtain a recommendation for their multiple subject or single subject preliminary teaching credential.
The Clear Teaching Credential for Catholic School Teachers is also available for currently employed Catholic school teachers and allows them to clear their preliminary multiple or single subject teaching credential.
The School also offers a Certificate in Catholic School Leadership and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching for Catholic School Teachers (CatMat). Full-Time Catholic schoolteachers can earn their preliminary and clear teaching credential and then complete a Master’s degree over a four-year period.
In a more recent collaboration between the DSJ and the School of Education, more than 100 teachers and administrators at seven area Catholic schools are participating in a year of professional development to receive a new Certificate in Blended Learning through a new Academy of Blended Learning (ABL).
The School is one of only three institutions nationally offering an emphasis in Latino Counseling aimed at the large local Latino population. The program focuses on applications of psychology with reference to issues of culture, ethnicity, acculturation and assimilation. and university each work together to enrich the work of the other.
