Dr. Warrington is currently Co-Founder and Senior Vice President, Second Genome Inc., where she is responsible for identifying and implementing biotechnology solutions for both internal R&D as well as commercial research service offerings. She oversees operations of multiple laboratories, as well as clinical trials with key commercial and academic partners. She has more than 25 years’ experience in biotechnology, devices and diagnostics R&D.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Warrington helped build Affymetrix from a small start-up to a multi-billion dollar market cap corporation, serving in a variety of roles including Vice President, Research and Development, Molecular Diagnostics. In partnership with Roche Molecular Systems, Dr. Warrington was the originator and lead scientist for the first FDA cleared microarray system for a diagnostic test. She initiated and led a coalition of over 200 scientists, representing industry, academia, and government, to create and establish the first internationally recognized standard controls and methods universally applicable to genomic technologies, which have been instrumental in accelerating acceptance of new drugs and diagnostics. Janet served as co-chair of key strategic working groups for the development of Electronic Health Records standards under the auspices of the US Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Janet has been awarded over $70 million in public and private research funding, holds several patents, and has published more than 60 scientific papers and book chapters. Janet earned her Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from UC Irvine, and was a Department of Energy supported postdoctoral scholar in genetics at Stanford University.
