New Program in Electrical and Computer Engineering

The recent growth within the Electrical Engineering Department in the areas of digital systems architecture and embedded systems has led to the approval of a new major in Electrical and Computer Engineering starting in fall of 2019. The department now offers two undergraduate majors, one in electrical engineering and the other in electrical and computer engineering. The core required engineering courses are distinct for each major, but many elective courses are important to both. Students majoring in electrical and computer engineering may focus on coursework in special purpose architectures, embedded systems, and efficient configurable implementations with FPGAs. These courses support emerging multidisciplinary areas such as the internet of things, 5G communications, machine learning, hardware security, autonomous vehicles, and energy generation and distribution.
