Application Requirements

B.S./M.S. Dual Degree (SCU Undergrad Students Only)

The School of Engineering offers qualified Santa Clara University undergraduates the opportunity to earn both a bachelor of science and a master of science degree in five years.

• A completed online Application for Admission to Engineering Graduate Programs
• One official transcript from each academic institution attended, indicating the degree received and date of conferral
 
Open University

• A completed online Application for Admission to Engineering Graduate Programs, including a nonrefundable $60 application fee
• One official transcript from each academic institution attended, indicating the degree received and date of conferral

Master's Degree

• A completed online Application for Admission to Engineering Graduate Programs, including a nonrefundable $60 application fee

• Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores, which must be sent directly to Engineering Graduate Programs by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Our institution code is 4851. For information on the GRE, please visit the website.

Engineer's Degree (Master's Degree required)

• A completed online Application for Admission to Engineering Graduate Programs, including a nonrefundable $60 application fee**
• A 500-word statement of purpose emphasizing the applicant’s research interests and outlining the applicant’s professional and academic goals, which must be included with the online application
• One official transcript from each academic institution attended, indicating the degree received and date of conferral**
• Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores must be sent directly to Engineering Graduate Programs by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Our institution code is 4851. For further information on the GRE, please visit the website.
• Three letters of recommendation are required. These letters should attest to the applicant’s academic preparation and capability for advanced studies. (There are no standard recommendation forms.)

Ph.D.

**For prospective Ph.D students, a Master's degree is required; no conditional admission.

 

International Students

English Proficiency

TOEFL or IELTS scores are required of all applicants whose first language is not English (even if the applicant is a U.S. citizen) or if you do not have a degree awarded by a U.S. university/college.

Minimum TOEFL score: IBT/79-80 or CBT: 213 (Institutional Code: 4851)

Minimum IELTS score: 6.5

International Degrees

All applicants who hold a degree from outside of the United States are required to have their official transcripts evaluated.

For WES evaluations (World Education Services) requires ICAP version course-by-course, cumulative GPA, and U.S degree equivalency. WES will attach your transcripts to the evaluation report. 

For ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators) we require a detailed report which includes course-by-course, cumulative GPA, and U.S. degree equivalency. You must mail your official transcripts to SCU, Graduate Engineering Program, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053.

There is no exception to this requirement.
