Jonathan Kwan

Inclusive Excellence Postdoctoral Fellow in Immigration Ethics

Jonathan Kwan has a PhD in philosophy from The Graduate Center, CUNY. In his dissertation entitled, “An Eco-Political Theory of Territory,” he defended a novel theory of a people’s territorial rights grounded in the values of political self-determination and ecological sustainability. His main areas of scholarly interest include social and political philosophy, philosophy of race, feminist philosophy, Indigenous philosophy, environmental philosophy, Chinese philosophy, and Buddhist philosophy.

Kwan has taught courses at Hunter College, Brooklyn College, and LaGuardia Community College. He has also served as the Managing Editor at the Journal of Social Philosophy and was a Communication Fellow at the Schwartz Communication Institute at Baruch College.

In a past life, he was a third-grade teacher at Beauvoir, The National Cathedral Elementary School. Originally from San Jose, Kwan remembers fondly the times he attended speech and debate tournaments at Santa Clara University during high school.
