How Might Journalism Help Democracy?

Event From Noon to 1:00 p.m. Pacific – Friday, October 8, 2021

Speaker: Subbu Vincent, Director of Journalism and Media Ethics

As regressive forces in America are fighting hard to halt democratic multiculturalism, journalists are coming under siege. Americans armed with social media are able to harass and attack journalists when their stories do not bend to authoritarianism. Equally, marginalized communities are able to challenge journalism to make it more democratic and inclusive. Caught between these forces, the press is not equipped to meet the moment. How might journalism take a leading role in the battle between democratic and anti-democratic forces?
