Mirella Bucci, senior editor, Nature Chemical Biology
Mirella Bucci began her career studying molecular and cellular biology. But after a postdoctoral position at Stanford, she moved into writing. Today she is part of the team that evaluates hundreds of manuscripts annually for Nature Chemical Biology and manages the peer review process. She discussed three ways in which academic publishing is different from traditional media: peer review, citations and a robust retraction and correction system. Online comments also play a role, though a relatively small one in scientific fields. These are the ways academic journals establish trust with their readers.
