Ethics at Noon: "Fraud, Lies, and Hermes Ties" with Aaron Beam
What would you do if your boss asked you to do something unethical? When presented with this hypothetical question, most of us say we would do the right thing and stand up to our boss. But research shows that we tend to overestimate our goodness in hypothetical situations, and, in reality, we’re prone to obey authority. Fortunately, thinking through these dilemmas before we experience them can help us do the right thing.
In this Ethics at Noon session, join us as we learn from Aaron Beam's cautionary story. Beam, the former CFO of HealthSouth, pleaded guilty to fraud in 2003 after following his boss’s order to “cook the books.” Beam will speak about corporate corruption and the importance of doing the right thing in the workplace even in the face of intense pressure to do otherwise.
