Thomas Reese, S.J., recently chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, will describe the precarious plight of religious believers around the world during this special Ethics at Noon event. Reese, Ethics Center distinguished visiting fellow, is a senior analyst at National Catholic Reporter and former editor of America magazine.

| An organization’s mission can provide a source for its ethical standards, according to Ann Skeet, director of Leadership Ethics. “People in organizations with a clear, well-known mission can use it as one assessment of value alignment—do my personal values and the organization's line up?” Skeet says. “But even more importantly, they can use it to make decisions. | The Ethics Center recently participated in a day-long training for public guardians and public administrators entitled “Ethics in End-of-Life Decision Making for Publicly Conserved Persons.” Bioethics Director Margaret R. McLean, retired elder law attorney Doris E. Hawks, and retired geriatrician Elizabeth Menkin explored the medical, legal, and ethical factors when making end-of-life decisions for incapacitated patients. Read More |
| Our "Global Jesuit Ethics Outreach Initiative" is in full swing, with four recent activities and events connecting Jesuits involved in ethics throughout the world: 1. A June conference on business ethics in Manila keynoted by Executive Director Kirk Hanson; 2. A robust Visiting Global Jesuit Fellows Program; 3. Participation in the Jesuit Digital Network highlighting relevant online content; and 4. Participation in our MOOCS (online business education courses) by Jesuit institutions around the world.
