Standards for Excellence® at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics
The Standards for Excellence® at the Markkula Center is offering scholarships to attend our Clinic Series and to cover the cost for a one year membership in our Partner in Learning community.
What does the scholarship cover?
A one year membership for your organization to be part of our Partner in Learning community. As a Partner in Learning, your organization will then receive our membership pricing rate for our two-day Clinic Series training (a $1,000 cost reduction).
In addition to the one year membership to our Partner in Learning community, your scholarship will also cover 75% of the cost for two people from your organization to attend the two-day Clinic Series training. The Partner in Learning cost to attend the training is $1,000, but the scholarship will cover $750.
Your organization will need to cover the remaining $250 if you receive a scholarship.The scholarship does not cover the cost of travel to attend the training.
What organizations are eligible to receive a scholarship?
Organizations that demonstrate a commitment to ethics and accountability in the nonprofit sector.
Organizations that can commit to sending their Executive Director and Board Chair (or Vice Chair) to the two-day Clinic Series training. The two-day Clinic Series training focuses heavily on nonprofit leadership and board governance. Because of this, if your organization receives a scholarship, we require that the two representatives from your organization be the Executive Director and the Board Chair. We will also accept the Vice Chair as a substitute for the Board Chair. If you have any questions or concerns about meeting this requirement, please contact Joan Harrington at email@example.com.
Organizations with an annual budget of under $5M.
Organizations that are in the following Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Merced, Napa, San Francisco, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, and Stanislaus.
Organizations that are outside of those 14 counties but have Santa Clara University Alumni in leadership roles.
How do I apply?
Here is our application for our November 7 and 8, 2019 session. You will also have to upload your organization's budget to the application.
When is the application due?
We accept applications on a rolling basis until trainings are filled. Our Scholarship Committee meets once a month to review applications. Applicants are notified via email shortly after the committee meets.
How many organizations do you accept per training?
We accept 12 organizations at 2 attendees per organization (for a total of 24 attendees) per two-day training.
When are your upcoming two-day Clinic Series trainings?
November 7 & 8, 2019.
Where are the trainings located?
On Santa Clara University's campus.
Can I apply on behalf of my Executive Director and Board Chair?
Yes, the application has a place to fill out their contact information.
Does the scholarship cover the cost of travel?
No, each organization is responsible for paying for their own travel arrangements if necessary.
Is the training offered online?
No, at this time, this is an in-person training at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California.
