Jimmy Duchesne
Recipient of the 2021-22 Fr. Richard Coz Scholarship

“The first time I met Father Engh was move-in weekend—he saw my mother and me and introduced himself—and we had a friendly conversation about the start of my SCU experience, and how my mom (Class of 1987) felt about being back on campus,” explains Accounting major Jimmy Duchesne ’22.  “And then we ran into him again over Family Weekend and, seeing how he recognized our faces and remembered details from our first conversation made an incredible impression on us.” Through these interactions with Fr. Engh, Jimmy “felt at home and like a member of the SCU family, which is a feeling I will always be grateful for.”

Jimmy was well-prepared for his college journey given his family’s legacy here. In addition to his mother, his uncle (’86), and two aunts (’90 & ’91) are also proud SCU alums. “I’ve been hearing stories from them, my mom especially, about their experiences as Broncos and the connections they maintained after graduation. My earliest memory of SCU is visiting the campus as a high school student and falling in love with the campus,” he says.

In addition to playing intramural soccer, Duchesne is enjoying his studies and feels at home at the Leavey School of Business.  “I chose to major in accounting because I’m interested in understanding how businesses function financially, as well as the problem solving and mathematical skills that contribute to the decision making process,” he explains.

Receiving the Father Coz Scholarship helped Duchesne focus on his studies and take full advantage of the full Santa Clara experience. He wants donors to this scholarship to know how much it means to its recipients “The Fr. Coz scholarship provided a huge sense of relief for me and my parents--receiving this award was a great surprise for us, and made me even more grateful for the opportunity to attend SCU.”
