Professor

How would you define your international education experience?

  •  International Scholar
  •  Accompanying Faculty

What was your international education experience like?

All my international experiences benefitted me greatly, whether as a researcher working in international centers, a professor teaching in international universities, or a professor accompanying Santa Clara students in their study abroad experiences.

My first experiences took place in research centers and libraries, working with international scholars and learning how to manage a range of resources. I've been blest to keep up those contacts. Then after a number of years at Santa Clara, the Gregorian University in Rome invited me to serve as a visiting professor in two different years. More regularly, I have accompanied Santa Clara students to London, teaching as a "home faculty" member in their program for many years.

These international times are times of discovery; the world is bigger than we think and God's creation much richer than we imagine.

What message do you have to share with students and community members about the importance of international education?

By all means take advantage of any opportunity to study or to do research abroad. You will learn about your subject area, of course, but more about the cultures in which you live, about the friends and colleagues you meet, and about yourself.
