Northwestern College

Hola tod@s! For my last semester I have left my small Iowa school, Northwestern College, where I’ve been studying Sociology and Spanish. I am drawn toward a more applied sociology focused on poverty and other social problems, and I am particularly fascinated by community development. That said, I was attracted to this program for its philosophy of accompanying the marginalized in order to learn from them and foster solidarity with them. I have not been disappointed so far. It is one thing to read from a history book; it is quite another to hear first-hand the stories of the people who have personally suffered that history. I am a firm believer that you can’t really care about another’s problems until they touch you personally—until you share in them. This program offers a small chance to do that.
