The Department of Human Resources is committed to providing assistance and resources to our valued employees. To that end, we have collected on this website COVID-19 related information and resources for our employees.  Additional and up-to-date COVID-19 related information can be found on the Prepared SCU website.

SCU Vaccination Requirement

As an important step in our plans to continue fully in-person classes and campus life, Santa Clara University mandates that faculty, staff, and students be vaccinated against COVID-19. 

Employees can comply with the vaccination mandate by having received the primary series plus a booster OR one dose of the bivalent/updated vaccine or by submitting a fully completed valid vaccination exemption request. 

SCU’s vaccine mandate allows for limited exemptions. Those who obtain a vaccination exemption may be subject to additional health and safety protocols on campus, including requirements for regular COVID-19 testing and wearing face coverings indoors.

Retirement vendors resources:
Both of our retirement vendors, Fidelity and TIAA, are available to assist employees with retirement-related questions. They can provide assistance with:

  • Quick and easy access to your plan, balances, and account information
  • Timely updates to help you navigate any legislative relief that may be coming your way
  • Other information and helpful resources on topics such as managing both stress and your budget through a crisis, replacing lost income, and understanding market cycles and emotions

SCU Provided Resources
Employee emergency loan program: The Employee Emergency Loan Program (EELP) is available for benefit eligible employees. The loan program is meant to provide assistance to employees who find themselves facing a financial emergency. For additional information and eligibility requirements, refer to the Employee Emergency Loan Application.

  • Keep a regular routine - wake up, get dressed, have breakfast, work, take breaks, etc…  
  • Remember to take lunch and breaks - step away from work and your computer
  • Have a designated place for working, set up your computer, phone, printer, and supplies - Log in and get ready for the day.
  • Check out the SCU - DIY Working Well from Home guide for ideas on DIY ergonomics you can use to create a comfortable work environment.
  • Learn to use Zoom (video, screen share, mute, etc) - practice before your first meeting
  • Have Zoom meetings with your colleagues (turn video on!)
  • Avoid back-to-back meetings in blocks longer than 2.5 hours; if a meeting is longer than 2 hours, schedule in a 10-minute break to increase focus and productivity.
  • Put in your calendar time to do "active pauses" including stretching, going for a short walk, doing some yoga poses or even a 5 min meditation
  • Sometimes, it’s ok to not be in video…this will allow you to stand and move around your workspace during calls
  • If using video conferencing, turn your video only when you're ready to be seen.  Check your backdrop so that others don't get focused on checking out what is behind you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rapid antigen tests are available in various locations on campus. Information on the on-campus test location is available on the SCU Testing site.

Benefit-eligible employees have access to COVID-19 testing through their medical provider.  For testing information provided by healthcare providers, employees are encouraged to contact their healthcare insurance provider to confirm coverage and applicable co-payment levels.

Employees must report a positive COVID-19 test here. Employees are also encouraged to inform their managers of off-site positive results and contact HR to obtain related information and resources. Employees also must follow the isolation protocols before returning to campus.

General information on reported cases and potential workplace exposure to COVID-19 is available on the SCU COVID-19 Dashboard.

If you have been exposed to COVID-19:

  • Test within 3-5 days after your last exposure.
  • Wear a mask for 10 days after your last exposure. 
  • If symptoms develop, stay home and take a COVID test 24 hours after symptoms start.

In some cases and depending on the circumstances, employees who are not able to work due to COVID-19 related circumstances may be eligible to receive compensation and or short-term leave payments.
