Creating a More Just World
On October 15, 2021 Santa Clara University celebrated the new Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. SCU’s president, senior leaders, trustees, donors, and alumni - including California Governor Gavin Newsome ‘89 - attended, joyful to be together again and to launch another step in the University's commitment to a more just, sustainable world.
As mid-quarter approaches, the Ignatian Center staff and students share the same joy of being together. We also feel a deep sense of satisfaction to see our programs - both virtual and in-person - bear fruit in the students' lives. In our students' reflections we hear how they are developing into compassionate "people for others."
We created the Ignatian Fellowship in late 2020 to serve students during the Covid-enforced separations. Although students were learning remotely, they still desired opportunities to deepen their commitment to social justice and support communities that they cared about. While our inaugural “class” of eight students completed their fellowships virtually, we are offering a hybrid model this Winter Quarter, with both virtual and in-person service. We anticipate awarding more than twenty students this opportunity to accompany and learn from partner communities.
