Washington Elementary After School Program

At the heart of Ignatian spirituality lies gratitude – gratitude for, to, and in order to. In his Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius invites us to be grateful for all the good things we have received, and to direct our gratitude to God. Our thanksgiving helps us serve God by becoming more generous to others. The more our service is rooted in thankfulness for what we have been given, the more we are able to give back to others freely.

Arrupe students often begin their placement thinking they are there to serve others. At the end of quarter, however, they realize that it is they who have been the recipients - of insight and friendship. Their gratitude is a sign of hope in a world that is in need of generosity, now more than ever.

A Spirit of Gratitude

This past quarter, the Ignatian Center's Arrupe Engagement placed 407 SCU students with 45 community partners, facilitating community-based learning opportunities that underscore SCU's commitment to justice and solidarity with marginalized communities. To learn how those 8 weeks of community engagement impacted the students, read their Post Engagement Reflections.
