Childhood Promise

This is not the story of me or them, or us. It is only one perspective from a lost son who returns home after 12 years of de-facto exiled. Similarly, like my brothers and sisters of Latino America and most emigrants, I did not have a choice in leaving my homeland. But choosing to return was a choice I made, and a process that took me 6 agonizing months. But on June 20th, 2016, I returned just as I had promised on the road to El Norte when I was only nine. This return is a journey through my early childhood memories, through the eyes of a 21-year-old living in the United States as a DACA recipient, and self-identified as Undocumented and unafraid, yet very skeptical of what my future holds in the US depending on the politics.
