What is IPEDS?
The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) is a system of interrelated surveys that collect institutional-level data from all U.S. postsecondary institutions that participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs.
What data are collected?
The IPEDS survey collections cover five basic domains:
- Institutional demographics
- Institutional resources
- Student demographics
- Student financial aid
- Student retention and graduation
Uses of IPEDS Data
IPEDS data are used for a variety of initiatives including in the Institutional rankings, college guide books, national studies, and the annual Data Feedback Report (IPEDS-DFR).

The Office for Diversity and Inclusion distributes the Diversity Dashboard. Data is pulled from IPEDS, compiled in Institutional Research, then provided to the Office for Diversity and Inclusion for decision making and controlled release.
